An Ode to Workplace Culture

Chelsea Grover

If I had a dollar for every time in the last year I had been asked “So, what are your plans after graduation?”, I probably wouldn’t have had to find a paying job! All jokes aside, the pressure placed on new graduates to find a comfortable, challenging, well-paying, intriguing, and overall phenomenal job with absolutely no experience is, well, exhausting. There is no other word. I was hopeful of finding an opportunity that encompassed all those attributes and then some, and luckily, I did.

Before I get too far into this without introducing myself, my name is Holland Lively, and I am Itentive’s newest consultant. I recently graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management and Systems. I know what you’re thinking- here we go again; another new, eager college grad trying to make her mark on a company. Well, you would be correct. I started at Itentive back in January as an intern and set very clear intentions to be a full-time employee. I was mentored, guided, and trained through projects and opportunities that taught me multiple facets of the consulting (and specifically the NextGen) world. Eventually, I was offered a full-time position and I guess you could say the rest is history.

Moving from a small town to the second-largest public university in the country was a risk, but one that I knew I wanted to take. Ohio State very quickly became home for the next four years, and I was in my stride as a young adult. Upon graduation, the feeling of home becomes blurred. You cherish the time you spent with friends, classmates, and peers over the last four years, but you know that it's the natural course of action to move forward. I hesitate to use the phrase “move on” because I do not think I have moved on from Ohio State. I think I will always hold being a Buckeye extremely close to my heart and hope to move forward with that throughout the course of my life. Moving forward from graduation meant finding a new home, a comfortable spot, a place to grow. Well, insert Itentive.

Itentive introduced me to a workplace culture that I could say felt like home. Within my first week, I was introduced to the entire company and these introductions led to a glimpse into the camaraderie of Itentive, and the joyful experiences people were willing to share. The showcase of their values and the transparency between their employees was astonishing to me. To see the excitement and the buzz radiating off everyone’s (albeit virtual) faces was contagious. My biggest fear out of undergrad was becoming a productivity number at a company. I wanted (and needed) a personal connection. You grow to know yourself, and what environments you thrive in. I needed trust, support, challenges, and little did I know that a company that encompassed all of those was at the tips of my fingers. I can connect with my coworkers or superiors any time I need with any problem I am facing. There is no fear in not understanding, but rather an encouragement to learn. I walk in every morning to an office where I am surrounded by people who want nothing more than to celebrate my success, share in my challenges, or lend a helping hand. These attributes shine through the overall happiness of every single employee. I knew so quickly that Itentive was shaping into my new home in Columbus. The culture was phenomenal, and the wine selection was even better. Just kidding of course…or am I? 😉

I mentioned above how the positive attributes shine through their employees, but another testament to Itentive’s culture can be seen in the work Itentive delivers to their clients. I believe that Itentive is second to none simply because they care. They care about their relationships with the client and sacrifice nothing to ensure they are heard, valued, and taken care of. They care about the patient experience and know that enhancing each element of a practice will ultimately create an improved patient-provider relationship. They care about knowing how to help their provider partners solve any problem that comes their way. Most importantly, they care about delivering quality solutions that showcase each employee's expertise at Itentive. I could sit here and write all day long about how dedicated Itentive is to their clientele, but the proof ultimately lies in the relationships they have with their clients and how each of their needs are treated with the individualized solutions that are necessary for their success.

Long story short, I hope every one of you finds a company like this. A company that values you as a person and gives you the tools you need to become the version of yourself that everyone knows you’re capable of being. A company that, on your first day, welcomes you with open arms and realizes your potential. A company that is full of joyous people with incredible backgrounds of all sorts and sizes, who champion you throughout your career. A company that becomes your new home. A company like Itentive Healthcare Solutions.

And, if you have made it this far, thank you for taking the time to get to know me, and I am eagerly awaiting the opportunity to work with you!
